Villanova, PA, April 3, 2014 - A team of four Villanova Business School (VSB) students took first place in the Fifth Annual Villanova Real Estate Challenge, a national real estate development case competition for students from the top undergraduate real estate programs in the nation. Kyle Grant ’14 VSB, Jack Herrill ’14 VSB, Lauren Nygren ’14 VSB and Mike O’Neill ’14 VSB worked together to outperform 15 other teams and take home the $5,000 cash prize.
“We were proud to represent Villanova and display the strength of the real estate program here, which we believe is one of the best undergrad programs in the country,” said Grant.
The Villanova Real Estate Challenge, hosted in Philadelphia by VSB’s Daniel M. DiLella Center for Real Estate, tasks student teams with collaborating to develop creative solutions to real-world problems. The final presentations are judged by senior executives representing top firms from all areas of the commercial real estate industry.
This year’s competition was marked by tough competition, but VSB’s team was creative in their approach and delivered their pitch with the composure of industry professionals during the competition.
One of the panel judges, Kyle Turner ’14 MBA, director of investments for Equus Capital Partners, praised the winning team and said, “the Villanova team displayed a deep understanding of the financial analysis, zoning requirements and project design while providing extensive local market due diligence throughout their presentation. The team was confident and well composed in their delivery. The Villanova team was the star of the competition, and the victory was very much deserved.”
Anthony Ziccardi, DiLella Real Estate Center fellow and vice president at Brandywine Realty Trust, agreed. He said, “This team certainly outshined the other contestants. What a tribute to them and to our real estate program in VSB.”
