MBA Non-Profit Consulting Practicum

The nonprofit consulting practicum is a course requirement for all MBA students in VSB that is part of the recent curricular reform. It has been very successful, becoming one of our flagship classes and a memorable experience for students and clients alike.

The MBA students form teams of approximately five persons and select a social enterprise within the greater Delaware Valley to serve. They also are assigned an Internal Consultant to support their efforts from among a select set of EMBA alumni. The course takes them through what it means to be a mission-driven organization, focused on the common good, and how to give a world-class presentation and provide a valuable takeaway for clients.

It culminates at the end of the semester with their final performance before client representatives, their consultant, and an outside observer. To date, over 130 such firms have been served during a three-year period, resulting in advances in their abilities to improve the quality of life of countless constituencies. Please contact us if you are interested in partnering your non-profit with this program.

The Center for Church Management & Business Ethics is actively looking to extend these successes and expand their influence to other VSB parties. A few of the ways we intend to expand this initiative are:

  • Breakfast or Lunch-and-learn sessions for non-profit leaders that allow VSB faculty to discuss their areas of research and consulting interests which overlap with the general needs of these organizations.
  • Extension of the internship program at both undergraduate and graduate levels by connecting these worthy causes with students who may have an interest in combining their business skill development with serving the common good.
  • Partnering of non-profit organizations with men who complete our program at SCI Graterford for independent work and entry level jobs.
