Choosing a Major
As can be noted, a specific major is not required. Students should thus select a major they would enjoy. The more they enjoy what they are doing, the better their grades should be. The better the academic record, the better the candidate for the programs of interest. It is incumbent upon the student to know the pre-requisite courses and how to meet the requirements in a timely manner. Course selection should be done in close coordination with the Health Professions Advisor who can be contacted at 610-519-4833 or hpa@villanova.edu.
Pre-requisite Coursework
Information on the pre-requisite courses for many of the better-known health professions can be obtained by clicking on the links on the left. Information on some of the lesser-known professions can be obtained by clicking on the Allied Health link.
Volunteering, Shadowing, and Activities
Numerous volunteer opportunities are available for students at hospitals, nursing homes, and community service organizations throughout the local area and elsewhere for students interested in health care.
Several suggestions:
- Villanova has many service organizations which you can join. The Pre-Med, Pre-Dental and Pre-Vet clubs organize activities throughout the year. There are many campus events in which you can participate such as Special Olympics and Up Til Dawn.
- Check the binders "Volunteer Opportunities" and AED Shadowing Programs located in the Health Professions Advisor's office in Mendel 143.
- Make inquiries in your hometown area for local programs.
