Undergraduate Programs

The Undergraduate Program offers majors and minors in Sociology and Criminal Justice.

Sociologists study the impact that the social environment has on our behavior throughout our lives. It is a dynamic discipline with opportunities for a variety of career pathways. A major in sociology will prepare you for the job market as well as for further study with graduate and professional degrees.

Those who major or minor in our department find that sociology provides them with an excellent foundation for a multitude of career paths, including many of those in criminal justice, community and social services, the government, education, business and industry.

The major in Criminal Justice is an interdisciplinary program designed to provide students with an understanding of the causes, social functions, societal reactions, nature and application of criminal law. Rather than a technical program which focuses on applied skills (e.g. vocational skills), our program will emphasize the justice component.  This program will educate students in diverse theories exploring the many social dimensions of crime and the effectiveness (and implications) of current criminal justice policies.
