William B. Allen is the Vertitas Fund Senior Fellow in the Matthew J. Ryan Center.  He is Emeritus Professor of Political Philosophy, Michigan State University. In 2006-07 he served as the Ann & Herbert W. Vaughan Visiting Fellow in the James Madison Program on American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University. He also has served on the National Council for the Humanities and as Member and Chairman of the United States Commission on Civil Rights. Dr. Allen is the author of George Washington: America's First Progressive(Peter Lang, 2008), Rethinking Uncle Tom: The Political Philosophy of Harriet Beecher Stowe (Lexington Books, 2009), and numerous other works on political philosophy and American political thought and history, and is the editor of a standard collection of Washington's writings.

Steve Cambone is the Thomas W. Smith Senior Fellow in the Matthew J. Ryan Center. Dr. Cambone received his M.A. and Ph.D. in political science from the Claremont Graduate School in California, and B.A. from Catholic University in Washington, DC.  He served as the first Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence and as a senior executive for QinetiQ North America. Dr. Cambone’s primary research interests are in national security policy and American politics.  He is developing a project that will pattern an examination of the contemporary American polity on Tocqueville’s, Democracy in America.
