Villanova's Language Media Center Facility allows students to experience the language of their choice in many different ways. Taking advantage of varied learning capacities, the lab provides auditory, visual and tactile realms where students may familiarize themselves with Arabic, Chinese, Classics, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish.
Utilizing the Microsoft Multilingual User Interface Packs and the Microsoft Visual Keyboard, students can type compositions or drills in different languages. These two Microsoft applications make typing compositions very easy (compared to ASCII key combination methods), and allow most of the focus to remain on grammatical structure.
Students may also listen to textbook lessons and record their own voice using the headsets attached to the computer stations. This is an easy way for instructors to implement and encourage oral repetition.
The audio and visual files previously only available in the Language Lab are now available to all students, faculty and staff enrolled in a Language course through WebCT. Please access WebCT classes through myNova
To get more of a feel for the natural cadence of a language, students can watch and listen to streaming audio and video from around the world using the Internet. The lab is fully wired and in the Web Resources section students can find quality streaming sites at the click of a mouse (as well as newspapers and useful dictionaries!).
Outfitted with multiple VCRs and DVD players, students can also watch assigned instructional and educational media in the viewing room.
