In 2012 a Chapter of the Gamma Kappa Alpha National Italian Honor Society was formed at Villanova University. Gamma Kappa Alpha is a society formed to acknowledge superior scholastic performance in the field of Italian language, literature and culture, and is open to membership at institutions of higher learning in the United States and Canada.
The society encourages college students to acquire a greater interest in, and a deeper understanding of, Italian culture, art and history. The organization recognizes outstanding undergraduate scholarship in the field of Italian by awarding annually the Gamma Kappa Alpha Award for Scholarship.
Membership is open to any undergraduate student who has taken at least two Italian language courses beyond the intermediate-level at Villanova University, has at least a B average in Italian and is in the upper 35% of his/her class.
Every Spring Semester new members are selected and inducted during the annual initiation ceremony of Gamma Kappa Alpha. If you are interested in joining the society, please contact Professor Diane Biunno, the Chapter Academic Advisor at Diane.Biunno@villanova.edu.
The Villanova University Chapter Gamma Kappa Alpha organizes trips to art museums, operas, plays, and concerts. Every year members are invited to attend a formal induction ceremony.
