Dear Friend of the College,
As the new dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Villanova University, I am very pleased to welcome you to the August 2011 issue of Inside A&S, the College’s monthly e-newsletter, on the eve of a new academic year.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for so graciously welcoming me to Villanova. From the moment I arrived on campus, I've been greeted by warm hellos and engaging conversation. Please know that I look forward to working with you and learning how we together can collaborate to advance the mission of the College.
The upcoming semester offers our students many opportunities to engage in intellectual and cultural pursuits both in and out of the classroom.
Our annual Mendel Medal Lecture, on Friday, Sept. 30, will feature Joseph M. DeSimone, Ph.D., the Chancellor’s Eminent Professor of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and William R. Kenan, Jr., Professor of Chemical Engineering at North Carolina State University. Dr. DeSimone will speak about "Co-opting Moore’s Law: Vaccines and Medicines Made From a Wafer." Learn more about the event here.
On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the University will host the 2011 Undergraduate Research Poster session, which will highlight the research accomplishments of our undergraduate students and their faculty mentors over the past year. Learn more here.
You won’t want to miss Villanova Theatre's presentation of The Comedy of Errors from Sept. 27 to Oct. 9. Performances run Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in Vasey Theatre. Faculty and staff tickets are $11 and FREE on Tuesdays.
I wish you a productive and enjoyable semester, and I look forward to getting to know you.
Sincerely,
