01.15.13 VILLANOVA, Pa. –

Villanova University announced that its Board of Trustees has elected Catherine M. Keating, Head of Investment Management Americas at J.P. Morgan, as its chairperson. Keating succeeds Terence M. O’Toole, who served as chair of the Board of Trustees since 2011.

“Catherine brings tremendous knowledge and experience to the role of chair of the Board of Trustees,” said the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, Villanova University President. “She has been a very active, engaged member of the Board, and her comprehensive knowledge of both the opportunities and key issues facing the institution will be a great asset in her new role. I look forward to working closely with Catherine to create an exciting future for Villanova University.”

The University also announced the election of Paul A. Tufano, Esq., Executive Vice President, General Counsel and President of Government Markets of Independence Blue Cross, as vice chair of the Board of Trustees. Additionally, four new members were elected to the Board of Trustees. The Rev. Peter G. Gori, OSA, JCD (Pastor of St. Augustine Parish in Andover, Mass.); Elizabeth T. Mazzeo (Chief Operating Officer of Bloomberg, LP); Robert J. McCarthy (Chief Operations Officer for Marriott International, Inc.); and Patrick M. McMahon (Chief Executive Officer and Co-Chief Investment Officer of MKP Capital Management, LLC), joined the 34-member Board, effective Jan. 1.

“The addition of these accomplished alumni serves to strengthen the Board of Trustees which provides critical oversight and guidance for the University,” added Fr. Donohue. “I am grateful for their commitment to Villanova and its mission.”  

CHAIR, BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Catherine M. Keating is Head of Investment Management Americas at J.P. Morgan, where she is responsible for overseeing one of the largest providers of investment management services. Keating is also a member of the JPMorgan Chase & Co. Executive Committee, the senior leadership group of the corporation, and a member of the Asset Management Division Operating Committee. In addition, she serves as a director of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation. Keating was previously the CEO of United States Private Banking at J.P. Morgan. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan in 1996, Keating was a partner in the international law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. She is a frequent author and speaker on investment and wealth planning topics. Keating has been featured in interviews appearing in Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, Barron’s , The Financial Times, and Institutional Investor, among others, and has appeared on CNBC and Business Week TV. Additionally, she has been named one of the Most Powerful Women in Banking by US Banker. Keating serves on the Boards of Trustees of the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York, the Inner-City Scholarship Fund, and the New York Women’s Forum. She had served as vice chair of the Villanova University Board of Trustees since 2011.

Keating earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Villanova University in 1984 and went on to receive a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law. She resides in Bronxville, N.Y.
