What Is Humanities?
The Department of Humanities is an intellectual community of students and faculty dedicated to exploring the human condition. Through a coordinated series of seminars and courses, we ask those “big questions” about the meaning of life and the reality of truth, beauty, and goodness in our world, seeking answers that accord with faith and reason. Humanities is very practical in its inquiry, focusing on concrete questions that matter in living a good life. Humanities faculty are specialists in complementary fields, including theology, philosophy, political science, literature, history, and architectural history. We work together to create an intellectual community for students where it is possible to learn and to live the fullness of a deeply human life.
