Funding

There are two types of competitive, merit-based funding available in most graduate programs for matriculated degree-seeking students who are studying full-time: Tuition Scholarships, which provide tuition remission for the total number of courses required for the degree; and Graduate Assistantships, which include a stipend along with tuition remission. International students as well as students from the US are eligible for these merit-based funding options.

Those not already enrolled in one of the graduate programs in arts and sciences may apply for funding at the time of their application for admission, as part of the online application. Students already enrolled in a graduate program should contact their graduate program director if they wish to be considered for a tuition scholarship or assistantship. In all cases, applications for merit-based funding are reviewed by the faculty in the individual programs, who make the decisions.

Graduate assistants and tuition scholars are generally expected to attend the University full-time, and perform various duties for their individual department, such as research assistance to faculty, and classroom or laboratory teaching assistance. Graduate assistants and tuition scholars must also be in a degree program and have a matriculated status. For more information, see the responsibilities and privileges of graduate assistants and tuition scholars document below.

A few other University programs and offices have a very limited number of graduate assistantships. For more information, see this web page.

Alumni Views

Attending Villanova for my master's degree (in HRD) was one of the best professional decisions I ever made.

I found the program rigorous and rewarding. The faculty offered current and comprehensive industry knowledge. The core curriculum was grounded in the business of human resources; the electives were varied and relevant. The course designs complemented the subject matter, and there was an appropriate balance of individual and group projects.

The support of both faculty and students contributed to my success in the program. I highly recommend the Villanova (HRD) Program.

Melissa

“The HRD curriculum offered all of the components that I was looking for in a Graduate degree program. From a varying range of functional course choices, real-world expertise from the professors, and a blend of knowledge based theory and strategic application – I knew this was the program for me.

As I look back at my time at Villanova, I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve as President of the Villanova SHRM Chapter. This turned out to be the ideal opportunity to help me grow both in a leadership role and as a responsible and respected member of the SHRM community at large. The initiatives from our SHRM Chapter were actively supported by the HRD staff and faculty and played an integral role in the alignment of the mission of the HRD Program with the success of its students.”
