The History Society is open to interested undergraduates who are history majors, history minors, or any student who enjoys history. The group sponsors extracurricular activities, historical films and field trips, as well as discussion of contemporary events from an historical viewpoint. The History Society is under student leadership and is run by students for the benefit of students. Everyone is welcome to join! The History Department maintains an active Tau-Phi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the international history honors society with membership based on strict academic requirements. The requirements for induction into Phi Alpha Theta for undergraduates are as follows: at least 12 semester hours (credits) in history (4 courses), a GPA of at least 3.1 in History, an overall GPA of at least 3.0, and a class rank in the top 35% of the class. Membership is not limited to history majors.
For graduate students, the requirements are: they must have completed at least 12 semester hours (credits) towards their MA degree in history, have a GPA of 3.5 or better, and should have completed at least 30% of the residence requirements for the MA degree.
