Required courses
To complete an English minor, you must take five English courses (15 credits) numbered 2000 or higher.
- At least one course must come from the British/Irish literature offerings. All 3000-level courses count, as well as English 2101 and 2102 (The British Literary Tradition I and II). Some other English courses—for example, courses in Irish Studies—may also count; check with an advisor.
- At least one course must come from the American literature offerings. All 4000-level courses count, as well as English 2103 and 2104 (The American Literary Tradition I and II). Some other English courses may also count; check with an advisor.
- The other three courses may be literature courses (those numbered 2100-5000), courses that focus primarily on writing and rhetoric (those numbered 2000-2099), or both.
Signing up
To sign up for an English major, you must fill out a form. You may fill it out any time before you graduate, though we recommend that you do so early so you can make sure you're on track. You can get this form either at the English department or by using the link below.
Students who have signed up for and completed an English minor will receive a certificate, to be mailed by the English department after graduation.
For any questions about the minor, please contact Prof. Michael Berthold.
