- Heimbold Professor reading. Poet Moya Cannon, the Charles A. Heimbold Professor of Irish Studies for 2011, read on March 31 in the President's Lounge of the Connelly Center.
- Villanova Literary Festival. Fiction writer John Haskell was the final reader in the 12th annual Literary Festival, following Monique Truong, Terrance Hayes, Colum McCann, and Eleanor Wilner. See the full schedule, as well as biographies, here.
- Irish Studies poetry reading. Prof. Joseph Lennon, director of the Irish Studies Program, read from his new book of poems Fell Hunger, together with Prof. Nathalie Anderson of Swarthmore College, who read from her new book Quiver, and Mary O'Malley Madec, Villanova's Resident Program Director in Galway, Ireland, who read from her new book In Other Words, on April 13.
- Academe: Intellectuals in the Ivory Tower? Prof. Karyn Hollis, along with Prof. Silvia Nagy-Zekmi from Hispanic and Cultural Studies, discussrf their recent edited book Truth to Power: Public Intellectuals In and Out of Academe, on March 24, in the first-floor lounge of Falvey Library.
- Workshop on English Major Internships. The English department held a workshop on internships on March 25, led by Prof. Jody Ross (the department's advisor for internships).
- Open Mic poetry reading. Seniors who submitted poems for the Senior Class Poet award, as well as other poets, read on April 27 in the first floor lounge of Falvey Library.
- Anna Deavere Smith. Critically acclaimed actress and playwright Anna Deavere Smith spoke on Monday, March 14.
- Talk on Community Culture and Online News Writing. Karl Smith, Regional Editor for Eastern PA for AOL's Patch, discussed the future of journalism on Wednesday, March 16.
- Pre-Registration Reception. The English department hosted a pre-registration reception on Friday, March 11, in the first-floor lounge of Falvey Library, where students and faculty mingled to eat lunch, share information about Fall 2008 courses and the English department in general, and socialize.
- Lecture on Our Bodies, Ourselves. Susan Wells, Professor of English at Temple University, discussed her recent book, Our Bodies, Ourselves and the Work of Writing, on Feb. 15.
- Lecture on Irish theatre. Fiach Mac Conghail,the director of the Abbey Theater in Dublin, spoke on February 17th.
- For English majors: Workshop on Career Readiness. On Friday, Feb. 11, Sheila Doherty, Assistant Director of Student Services at the Career Center, presented tips on how to market your English degree in a job or internship search. - Lecture on Wilde and Bernhardt. Sharon Marcus, Orlando Harriman Professor of English at Columbia University, presented a talk titled "Salomé!! Sarah Bernhardt, Oscar Wilde, and the Drama of Celebrity" on Feb. 7.
- Visit by Seth Rozin. Seth Rozin, Artistic Director of InterAct Theatre Company, discussed InterAct's mission to present stage dramas with socio-cultural significance on Feb. 9.
