- Fulfill the core mathematics/computer science requirement by taking CSC 1051 - Algorithms & Data Struc I . This course is required for the concentration in Cognitive Science and can serve as an elective for the minor in Cognitive Science. It also is a prerequisite for all other Computer Science courses.
- Fulfill the core advanced philosophy requirement by taking PHI 4610 - Philosophy of Mind which satisfies a requirement for both the concentration and the minor in Cognitive Science.
- Fulfill part of the core social science requirement by taking PSY 1000 - General Psychology followed by PSY 4500 - Cognitive Psychology . General Psychology is a prerequisite for all other psychology courses, and Cognitive Psychology satisfies a requirement for both the concentration and the minor in Cognitive Science.
By following the above tips, students wishing to concentrate in Cognitive Science will have completed three of the five required courses for the concentration while simultaneously fulfilling their core requirements for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. These students would need only four more courses to complete the concentration (two required courses and two electives).
Students wishing to minor in Cognitive Science will have completed two courses required for the minor plus an elective. To complete the minor, these students would need to take any two additional classes from the approved the list of Cognitive Science courses.
Arts students majoring in Psychology or Philosophy will be able to count appropriate courses toward both their major and their concentration or minor in Cognitive Science.
