Sample Curriculum

Listed below are science courses either required or appropriate as electives for undergraduate Biochemistry majors. In some departments, courses are offered only once a year, or only once every other year; the pattern of past offering may indicate likely future availability, but check with your advisor for current information about specific courses. Biology and Chemistry courses numbered 7000 and higher can be taken by qualified undergraduates. Consult with your advisor about requirements and procedures.

* In order to fulfill the requirements for an ACS certified degree, enough laboratory work must be performed to bring the total amount of time in the laboratory for the four years to 500 hours. The core chemistry courses yield 336 hours of laboratory work. Therefore students must take a semester of Undergraduate Research plus the Biochemistry Laboratory or the Organic Analysis Laboratory or they must take two semesters of Undergraduate Research.
