President's Welcome

Hello, my name is Larry Little, associate professor of History, and president of the Villanova University Chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Welcome to our website!

Phi Kappa Phi honor society rewards academic excellence; no more, no less. By accessing this website, you are demonstrating an equal interest in academic achievement. Hopefully, our requirements and your performance overlap; we accept the top 10% of the senior class and the top 7.5% of the junior class. If you meet those standards, you will be receiving induction materials from us in January or February, and we would be honored if you would join us. As members of Phi Kappa Phi, you will be eligible to partake in all of the benefits of membership, including the chance to compete for scholarships for graduate study. If you don’t quite meet the standards, but you are close and an underclassman, keep trying! We will be pulling for you. Either way, the greatest benefit of our college career is our education, and by your accomplishments in that are I am glad to see that you consider your educational experience as important as all of us in the society do.

If you are a previous inductee, thank you for your continued interest in the society. We are striving to remain an active and vigorous chapter here at Villanova, and we would appreciate any input you have that could allow us to grow and prosper. Please feel free to contact us through this website if you have any questions or comments concerning the society. This goes for any potential inductees as well!

Again, I want to thank you for your interest in academics in general, and in the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society in particular. We all hope to hear from you!

ΦKΦ Symbols

ΦKΦ Key

The Phi Kappa Phi Key consists of the badge - a globe against the background of the sun, whose rays form an expansive corona and radiate in a number of symmetrical concentrations from behind the globe.  These rays signify equivalence among the various branches of leaning and represent the dissemination of truth as light.  Encircling the globe is a band containing the Greek letters ФΚФ that symbolizes a fraternal bond that girds the earth and binds the lovers of wisdom in a common purpose.

Phi Kappa Phi ribbon

The Phi Kappa Phi ribbon is a meander pattern, common in ancient Greek art and symbolic of the classical features of the Society.

Phi Kappa Phi seal

The seal of the Society has at its center the badge.  This in turn is surrounded by a crenellated line that represents the battlements and walls of Troy as well as a technological aspect of the ancient Greek culture.  In the space between this line and the periphery of the seal appear three stars just above the badge, one for each of the three original chapters.  Just below the badge is the phrase "Founded in 1897."
