Since graduating from Villanova in 1994, Laura Savino Onghena has been a dedicated volunteer with the Villanova University Alumni Association. During the past fifteen years, Laura has organized numerous alumni events from game watches to scholarship golf outings, and she is currently the Long Island Chapter President as well as the Regional Coordinator in the New York and North Jersey area. Additionally Laura has worked as a Class Reunion Volunteer and participated in the alumni Habitat for Humanity trip in Slidell, Louisiana working to rebuild homes devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
Reflecting on why she chose to volunteer as an alumna Laura noted, "After graduation I missed Villanova and I got involved with my local alumni chapter. Since I had recently graduated, I didn't have a lot to contribute financially, but I wanted to contribute my time since Villanova had given me so much." Volunteering offers many benefits and opportunities for the people who participate. Laura’s advice to graduates looking to make their alumni experience more meaningful, "If you loved being at Villanova, you should reach out beyond the campus. The chapter network is a great way to get to know people who may not have been in your graduating class but love Villanova as much as you do."
