Karin Risi '99 MBA

Karin Risi '99 MBA was named head of the Retail Investor Group at Vanguard in March of 2015. She is now one of ten Managing Directors who advise and report to Vanguard CEO Bill McNabb.

Karin grew up in Southeastern Pennsylvania and chose to stay in the area when she graduated from Villanova. Her first professional opportunity was with a rotational program for financial associates at Sunoco in Center City, Philadelphia. Read more

Negotiation is the art and science of securing an agreement between two or more independent parties, and is a constant feature of our daily lives. We negotiate performance goals, compensation, and development opportunities at work. We negotiate prices, conditions of purchase, and customer support in the marketplace. We negotiate chores, meals, and schedules at home. However, many of us spend little, if any, time considering what factors make us more – or less – effective in negotiations. Read more 

RECAP OF FALL 2015 EVENTS

Daiichi Sankyo Pharmaceutical Development Hosted VWPN Event

On Friday, September 11, Daiichi Sankyo Pharmaceutical Development located in Edison, N.J., hosted the Villanova’s Women's Professional Network for the Women's Forum Event Leadership Shadowing Event. Undergraduates had the opportunity to listen to a career panel discussion about the diversity of career paths in the pharmaceutical industry. Read more

Suit Up for Success

On September 16, more than 30 undergraduate, graduate, and alumnae women attended the Suit up for Success networking event. Lauren Wattie and Lauren Nick of Vault Communications, a public relations firm in the Philadelphia area, and Sheri Cowan and Jenn Marion of Calista Image, an image consulting firm in West Chester, Pa., led an informative session on professional appearance and confident presence with a focus on bringing the best version of yourself to the internship, job interview, and the first day of your career.

Work Smart Salary Negotiation Workshops

The VWPN held two Work Smart Salary Negotiation Workshops this fall at Villanova on Tuesday, October 6 and Sunday, November 15. Thirteen staff, students and alumni attended the first workshop, facilitated by Katina Sawyer, Assistant Professor of Psychology, CLAS and fifteen students and alumni attended the second workshop, facilitated by Cheryl Carleton, Assistant Professor of Economics, VSB and Director of the Villanova Women’s Professional Network. Read more

VWPN Networking Event in Washington, D.C.

Women's Professional Network Members at DC event

On October 15, 35 Villanova women gathered for a VWPN Networking Event in Washington, D.C. at the beautiful home of F. Davis '77 VSB, P '10 and Lynda Camalier P '10. The alumnae in attendance represented classes from 1983 to 2015 from the COE, CON, CLAS and VSB. Attendees had the opportunity to network and hear from accomplished women in the region. Michele Gianforcaro ’89 VSB said, “I really enjoyed witnessing and participating in so many ‘real conversations.’ The young alumnae were eager to discuss what they were and were not enjoying about the current jobs and were eager to explore options and hear from more experienced alumnae about their career paths.”

On Tuesday, October 27, Villanova Women’s Professional Network, the College of Engineering and CLAS Gender and Women’s Studies presented Joanna Barsh, Director Emeritus at McKinsey & Company and best-selling author of “How Remarkable Women Lead” and “Centered Leadership.” Read more

Cradles to Crayons Coat Drive

This past fall the Villanova Women’s Professional Network collected 78 new and gently used winter coats, as well as hats and gloves, for Cradles to Crayons. Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12 living in homeless or low-income situations with the essential items they need to thrive - at home, at school and at play. They supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need.
