Shots fired at Villanova University

VILLANOVA, PA , November 11: 8:30 am update - At 2:30 a.m. Sunday, November 11, Villanova’s Public Safety department received a report of shots being fired in the University’s main parking lot at the corner of Lancaster and Ithan Avenues. No injuries were reported. Villanova University Public Safety officials along with the Radnor Police department responded immediately and are currently investigating the incident, which began with reports of altercations, near the end of a late-night dance. It is estimated that there were approximately 200 attendees at the Office of Student Development-sponsored event, which included both Villanova students and off-campus guests.

The Public Safety and Radnor Police officers responded and broke up the altercations. Police believe that one of the individuals involved fired several shots in the main parking lot and then left the area by vehicle. Public Safety officers immediately secured each of the dorms in close proximity to the incident and remained on duty until given clearance. In addition, overall security on the entire campus was heightened, including frequent patrolling on foot, bicycle and patrol cars.

As there is no immediate threat, the campus community has been advised to go about its normal business. All on-campus masses in the St. Thomas of Villanova Church will be held as scheduled.

The Radnor Police Department is continuing the investigation. Anyone having any information concerning the shooting is urged to call Detective Jim Santoliquito of the Radnor Police at 610-688-0503, x112.
